Pokémon card sleeves
Every good Pokémon player should have their game deck completely wrapped in Pokémon card sleeves. Packaging is most commonly used to protect collections and cards, but is also used at all PokéMon, where they ensure your cards last longer and prevent any damage. Basically, every more expensive card should be in a sleeve, or discount.
There are these basic card sleeves:
- Tight card sleeves (called perfect fit, perfect size, pro fit, or inner sleeves depending on the brand). These serve as inner sleeves and you can then still store the card in a regular sleeve. For example, ultra pro fit sleeves.
- Regular sleeves transparent - these are relatively loose sleeves, they are probably the most widely used because they are very cheap. Example of ultra pro card packaging.
- Gaming, sturdier card sleeves - these are much tougher sleeves that can withstand a lot of shuffling. They often have pictures on them, but are also made without pictures (these are preferred by experienced players at tournaments). Dragon Shield black matte covers are an example.
- Solid, hard card sleeves - these are plastic, hard sleeves that protect the card from damage. They can withstand impact or high pressure. These are further divided into:
- Toploaders - plastic card sleeves that are suitable for transport or storage, but are not suitable for display because they do not have UV protection (protection from the sun). An example of a common regular toploader packaging can be found here.
- One Touch Holders - this is a hard sleeve for one card that is hardened and suitable for storage but also has UV protection, i.e. you can display your card on a shelf and it won't fade. Example of One touch card holder sleeve here.
If you don't need anything extra, plain transparent sleeves will do. If you don't want to tell played cards from new cards, then get opaque sleeves (for TCG players). And if you want protection for expensive cards, buy the so-called perfect size or perfect fit sleeves, which you then put in other, regular sleeves. Cards wrapped in this way will survive even spilled water on the table...
